Vasali Alexeev set the world record for the Clean and Jerk in 1970 at 227.5 kg or 501.5 pounds. It was at the World Championship held in Columbus,Ohio. A few minutes later Serge Reding of Belgium tried 228.5 kg or 503.75 pounds. He failed to hold the jerk. If he had made it, Alexeev probably could have done more. The 501 appeared to be fairly easy.
